CaC Shuaibu has encouraged close collaboration with economic operators and technical partners
In early 2025, Comptroller Mohammed Salisu Shuabu, stationed at the Idiroko border post in Nigeria, undertook a series of reforms aimed at modernizing and enhancing the efficiency of customs operations. These initiatives are part of a broader context of customs modernization in sub-Saharan Africa, initiated since the mid-1990s, with the main objectives of improving risk management, simplifying procedures and promoting ethical conduct within customs services.

Among the measures implemented by Comptroller Shuaibu, the introduction of advanced risk management techniques has enabled a more efficient distribution of controls throughout customs procedures, including post-clearance. This approach aims to increase the level of spontaneous compliance with the regulations in force. In addition, special attention has been paid to the training and specialization of staff, thus ensuring better adaptation to the contemporary challenges of cross-border trade.

In parallel, Comptroller Shuaibu has encouraged close collaboration with economic operators and technical partners, fostering constructive dialogue to identify and resolve obstacles hindering legal trade. This collaborative approach has led to a notable improvement in the fluidity of trade at the Idiroko border post.
These efforts reflect a determined desire to enhance the transparency, efficiency and security of customs operations, thereby contributing to regional economic development and the facilitation of trade between Nigeria and its neighbors.
